September 2008 Meeting Print E-mail
Written by Harvey Bird

The September meeting went very well.  Anthony Chodan of Grade-A-Reptiles came and spoke about "Endangered & Threatened Species."  He discussed reasons for declining reptile & amphibian populations, and things that could be done both on the legislative level and on the personal level to change that.  He discussed a few different species that are endangered/threatened and even brought some live animals to display.  Some of the animals he displayed were corn snakes (endangered in NJ), Northern pine snakes, black pine snakes, Louisiana pinesnakes, Southern hognose, Eastern hognose, Alligator snapping turtle, and a Texas indigo snake.

At the conclusion of the meeting we raffled off some items that were donated.  We raffled off two tanks, a 55-gallon and 70-gallon tank that were donated by Dr. Peter Astarbi.  We also raffled off an aquatic frog set-up with a leucistic clawed frog.  The clawed frog and set-up were donated by Newman's Fish Foods, Inc.
