Native Reptiles & Amphibians of New York State

New York State is home to a diverse population of reptile & amphibian species. There are many species that represent the major groups. It is home to a wide variety of snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, toads & salamanders. New York state is even home to three venomous species. Those are the Timber Rattlesnake, the Northern Copperhead and the Eastern Massasauga.New York state is even home to three venomous species. The most common species found on Staten Island are the Eastern garter snake, Eastern Box turtle, Eastern Painted turtle, Snapping Turtle, Northern Brown snake, Northern Spring Peeper, Green Frog, Bullfrog, Red-backed salamander and Fowler's toad.
